LMCC Presentation Evening

This year’s presentation evening was held at The Boot and was a great success. It was a good turn-out although sadly Sherry was unable to attend, Dan was somewhere else doing a frog impression and Chris was abroad on business.

Cricket is a team game and everyone played their part this season but obviously not everyone can win an award. Most of the awards went to a worthy winner with the possible exception of the Clubman in light of the very late arrival of this report – apologies to you all.

After the arduous task of lubricating our vocal chords with offerings from the bar the presentation began.

As Chairman, it befell on Peter to be the MC. He started in his customary manner by displaying his environmentally friendly green credentials by re-cycling some jokes from his extensive archive before getting down to business.

The first award was The Pearman Cup for the Champagne Moment. On reflection there was really only one candidate and it was deservedly awarded to David Beardsley for his 6-29 bowling figures at Langley II. Other nominations for the Champagne Moment included: Dickie’s 3 bouncing pea roller wicket at Ware, Dan & Phippsy’s clash of heads going for catch, JBs catch at N Weald that came down with snow on it, Dave Bs drop at N Weald, George’s 3 consecutive 6s at Ware, and the 3-card trick that is Tom Phippsy & Dickie for joining us this year. Dave puts up with a fair bit of ribbing from his teammates but we were all united in acknowledging a superb performance with the ball.

The Catching Cup was shared between Bob and Dickie who, in anticipation of the photo opportunity, had got together in advance and decided to wear matching shirts.

The award for Most Improved Player once again could only have gone to one person – Phippsy has worked tirelessy on his bowling and batting, he’s hardly missed a nets session and is a worthy recipient in light of his improvement throughout the season.

I can only thank you all for the Clubman award. I’ve had a lot of fun this season and hopefully the spirit and momentum we’ve created can carry on in the coming year.

The Player of the Year was awarded to Ahmed. This was not only in recognition of his impressive bowling and batting figures but also the way he led from the front when  thrown in at the deep end as Captain. I think we all agree he did a fantastic job – well done Ahmed and thanks from us all.

As I said at the start, everyone contributed to our success last season, I can’t mention everyone but I do feel special mention should go to the following:

Peter for providing the new nets and all his hard work on the pitch and elsewhere

Sherry for steering us through the first half of the season

Carol for all her hard work behind the scenes

Burly for turning up and bringing Justin Butt Close along on occasion as well as umpiring when he was itching to play – great to have you back fit again!

Chris for providing some unbelievable photographs

Dave P for being such a brave keeper and great team member.

Just a reminder that the AGM will be  on Weds 9th November at The Robin Hood, Tonwell, 7.45/8.00 ish, look forward to seeing you all then.
