Apologies for the late posting of this match report and the lack of detail. The reason for the first is down to computer problems and the second because Bob has the book as he is collating the season’s statistics – which will be put up on the site in due course.

We travelled to the Epping Forester’s ground knowing that a victory for us or at least 4 points was necessary to secure our 4th position and the league but also that victory for our hosts meant the trophy for coming top.

On arrival we discovered that EF’s had already decided that the game wasn’t going to start on time as the pitch wasn’t cut or  marked out and there was surface water to be seen at both ends.

When their captain arrived at 2:30 Ahmed discussed the state of the pitch and the prospect of the game even taking place. It was evident that the Foresters were determined to play even if it meant a 6 o-clock start – and who can blame them with such a prize at stake?

We took tea before play and eventually got started on what was in effect a 20/20 game shortly after 4. EF’s won the toss and put Munden into bat opening with Dave P and Ahmed. Batting was difficult on the still spongy pitch and none fo our batsmen really go going although Dan top scored and at least made them go searching in an adjacent pond when he pulled the ball for four.

Munden were all out for 44 (I think?) and with the skies darkening, Dave B opened the bowling. As the rain started to fall, we managed to remove both openers but had to scurry to the pavillion for cover before long. Another deluge produced more surface water which our hosts covered with copious amounts of sawdust but the game had to be concluded and the young No. 3 and 4 bats for EF steadied their ship and they coasted to victory.

Congratulations to Epping Foresters, they are a very good side and Munden can be proud that due to results elsewhere going our way, we did indeed finish the season 4th in the table – a very commendable achievement at atime when the club is going through somewhat of a transition.

I shall keep the news coming on the site but I’d just like to say a big thank and well done to all involved.
